MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING <br />PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION <br />LITTLE CANADA, MINNESOTA <br />May 1, 2008 <br />Pursuant to due call and notice thereof a regular meeting of the Parks & Recreation Commission <br />of the City of Little Canada, Minnesota, was held on the ls` day of May, 2008, in the Council <br />Chambers of the City Center located at 515 Little Canada Road East in said City. <br />At 6:30 p.m. the commissioners and Jim Morelan met at city hall for a spring trails tour of <br />several of the proposed trail projects. <br />Chair Pam Davis called the commission meeting to order at 7:40 p.m. and the following <br />members of the Commission were present: <br /> MEMBERS PRESENT: Ms. Pam Davis, Chair <br /> Mr. Jim Fleischhacker <br /> Mr. Thomas Maida <br /> Ms. Ruth Steinwall <br /> Ms. Clara Neis <br /> Ms. Linda Fahey <br /> ABSENT: Mr. Kevin Steinert <br /> ALSO PRESENT: Mr. Jim Morelan, Park & Recreation Director <br /> Ms. Dotty Norgard, Recording Secretary <br />MINUTES Maida made a motion to approve the minutes from the April 3, 2008, meeting, seconded by <br /> Fleischhacker. Motion carried 6-0. <br />OLD Bill Sanders sent out bid request forms to contractors for the concrete work for the skate park. <br />BUSINESS- There were nine bids that were opened on Apri129. The lowest bid was from Bailey <br />SKATEBOARD Construction for $44,990.50 and the range was as high as $72,250.00. Morelan reported that <br />PARK the bids would be presented to the Little Canada Recreation Association on their meeting on <br /> the fourteenth of May. Morelan estimates the work could begin around the first of June and <br /> be completed around the fifteenth of June. Davis inquired about the cost of the equipment. <br /> Morelan estimates the equipment would cost between $70,000 to $75,000, depending on the <br /> supplier. Fahey inquired about the timing of the process to complete the project. Morelan <br /> stated he thought the entire project could be completed by the middle of the summer. <br />Morelan reported the St. Paul Water Department approved the rider allowing the installation of <br />the concrete base at their April Board of Commissioners meeting. <br />OLD FIRE Morelan reported that at the last City Council meeting the council recommended that he and <br />HALL RINK Mayor Blesener meet with St. John's Church within a couple of weeks to discuss the land issue <br />RECON- with moving the skating rink and the acquisition of land for the proposed Waterworks Trail. <br />FIGURATION There was a brief discussion about possible oppositions to the projects. Morelan expressed <br />some concern with the two current buildings owned by St. John's Church that border the <br />proposed trail, but also relayed the good working relationship between the city and <br />Page 1 of 4 <br />
