MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
JULY 23, 2008
Administrator indicated that he would verify this fact. The Council
discussed the concrete painting, and it was the consensus of the Council to
proceed with both railing replacement and concrete painting.
SHERIFF'S The City Administrator reported that he and the Mayor met with the
BUDGET Sheriff and Undersheriff Altendorfer to discuss the proposed revision
OPTIONS to the patrol formula whereby 10% of patrol costs will be allocated based
on calls for service in 2009 and 20% in 2010. This change will cost Little
Canada an additional $30,000 in 2009 and $50,000 in 2010. The
increased costs will result in no increase in service to Little Canada
residents. The Administrator reported that the Sheriff was asked to hold
off on the formula increases at this time, and in return Little Canada would
add one officer to the afternoon shift. The cost for this position is
approximately $120,000 per year. It is hoped that this will focus more
attention to the City's problem areas and reduce future call load. This
position would be available to respond to calls in other jurisdictions.
The Sheriff has agreed to hold off on the formula increases for a two year
period. The Sheriff's Department will absorb the Little Canada formula
increases during that two-year period. After that time, formula increases
would come into play.
The Adminisriā€¢ator pointed out that there are two options for the Council to
consider. The first is to keep service levels the same and pay the formula
changes. The second is to add an officer for two years to measure the
impact on problem areas.
The Council instructed the City Administrator to work out the specifics
with the Sheriff s Department on the additional Little Canada deputy, and
present this as part of the 2009 Budget package.
SHERMAN The City Adminishator reported that staff met with George Sherman to
DEVELOPMENT address a number of issues. The first is Sherman's request to revise The
ITEMS Villas Development Agreement reducing the townhome count from 45 to
44. The unit that would be eliminated is the one that would be located
where a possible connection to other development property could occur.
The Administrator pointed out that The Villas have exceeded the market
value that Sherman was required to provide. The Administrator felt that
with current market conditions, as well as locating the 45 unit in an area
that would block the potential for future development of the adjacent
property as part of this project, it made sense to eliminate the 45`" unit.
Council agreed.
