MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
JULY 23, 2008
they would be able to have I 1 containers. The City Planner indicated that
the Planning Commission felt that there was a basis for a hardship to grant
the Variance to allow up to 11 containers.
Dave Hohn, On-Site Air, noted that he has 8 containers currently, but
would like the ability to have up to 11 if the need arises. Blesener stated
that he could support 8 containers since that is what is currently on the
property. Blesener noted that 1 container is currently visible from the
street, and suggested that adding 3 more would result in more visibility.
Holm indicated that the containers could be placed on the back side of the
building and would not be visible from the street.
Allan asked if On-Site Air is the only business occupying the building.
Holm reported that he leases approximately 3/4ths of the building to
American Fastening. This company sells nails. Allan asked what is being
stored in the containers. Holm reviewed the pictures showing the storage
of portable heaters and hoses, etc. within the containers. Holm reported
that he is willing to paint the containers to match his building.
Holm indicated that he is trying to grow his business, therefore, would like
the ability to add up to 3 more containers if needed. He pointed out that
his business is seasonal and he needs more storage space for the heaters
during the warm months.
Allan asked if the heaters could be stored inside the building. Holm
pointed out that he has along-term lease with his renter. He felt that he
was a good property owner in the City, and requested consideration for up
to 11 storage containers.
Keis indicated that there was nothing magical about the number 4, and he
would be willing to allow more containers. Keis felt that the containers
should not be visible, should be painted to match the building and should
be on the property in an orderly manner.
Holm noted that storing the materials outside of the containers would be
an eyesore. He felt the use of the containers for storage was a better
solution.
Montour agreed that he was not sure that the number 4 was the right
number. He pointed out that a number was chosen rather than a
percentage as it was an easier enforcement option. Blesener felt that the
number of containers allowed was dependent on the size of each property.
