1 LittLe Canada Fire department Standard Operating Guideline SOG 305 Subject: Fire Department Command Response Vehicles Effective Date: 2-1-2019 Rescinds: Application: All LCFD Personnel Authorized by: Fire Chief Smiley I. GENERAL The intent of this policy is to provide clear direction on authorized use of Little Canada Fire Department Command Response Vehicles. The Fire Department is an emergency operations department with twenty- four (24) hour/day, seven (7) day/week response requirements. This 24/7 demand requires the need for Incident Command Response Vehicles assigned to designated personnel. Fire Department personnel as designated by the Fire Chief may be assigned a Response Vehicle to assure they are able to conduct departmental business and respond to emergency incidents as necessary. As there is no way to predict the timing of an emergency incident there is the need for designated staff to have ready and immediate access to a response vehicle. Personal use and official use overlap to such an extent it is difficult to distinguish between such uses. This policy provides standard operating guidelines for personal use of Command Response Vehicles by designated Fire Department personnel. II. Policy and Procedures This policy is designed to provide guidelines for the use and operation of a Response Vehicle by Fire Department staff: 1. The Fire Chief shall designate those employees who will be assigned a Command Response Vehicle based on the needs of the Fire Department. 2. Only Little Canada Fire Department employees shall be allowed to operate or drive an assigned Command Response Vehicle. Passengers in a department issued Command Response Vehicle are limited to the employee’s immediate family, other Federal, State, and Local Government employees, as well as non-employee individuals participating in Fire Department business. Exceptions to this provision shall be approved by the Fire Chief or their designee.
