Other options that were considered were replacing the pavers with colored and stamped concrete
to give the appearance of pavers and pouring a traditional concrete sidewalk in lieu of pavers and
using existing pavers for the rest of the streetscape. The traditional sidewalk with decorative
pavers is estimated to be similar in cost to the proposed paver project and the colored and stamped
concrete project could be as much as double the cost. Because the pavers have performed so well
over the course of eighteen years and have a better “look” than white concrete, it is staff’s
recommendation that the proposed paver replacement project be pursued.

I estimate that if this project moves forward, the project timeline would be about 4-6 weeks to
construct after bid award.

SOURCE OF FUNDS:
TIF District 3-2 that was retired last year is a potential source of funding for this project. Up to
$623,000 may be eligible for this project through those funds. $525,000(funded by TIF) was included
in the 2019 CIP.
STAFF RECOMMENDATIONS:
Staff recommends the City Council approve the City Engineer to prepare plans and specifications
for the Little Canada Road Paver Project at an estimated cost of $55,000. Plans would be ready
for presentation to the City Council at its July 24th meeting.
ATTACHMENTS:

- Photos of Existing Concrete Pavers
- Engineer’s Estimate
