MINUTES <br />CITY COUNCIL <br />OCTOBER 23, 2019 <br />PRESENTATIONS: <br />The City Administrator stated that he has budgeted for 2020 to join the <br />SHANNON <br />Saint Paul Area Chamber of Commerce, and Ms. Watson is here to give <br />WATSON, SAINT <br />the Council an overview of their Chamber. Shannon Watson, Director of <br />PAUL AREA <br />Public Affairs with the Saint Paul Area Chamber of Commerce, explained <br />CHAMBER OF <br />that just because their name says Saint Paul, they encompass a much <br />COMMERCE <br />larger area throughout the east metro. She noted that the Chamber puts on <br />over 120 events every year for networking and education. She stated they <br />work in partnership with the counties on initiatives and programs. <br />The City Administrator reported that the Chamber also coordinates <br />Business Council's around the east metro, and he is working with the <br />Chamber to possibly join Little Canada with the Maplewood Business <br />Council. <br />PLANNED UNIT <br />The City Administrator stated that Pallet Services Corporation (PSC) is <br />DEVELOPMENT <br />seeking an amendment to their existing Planned Unit Development <br />AMENDMENT AT <br />(PUD) to accommodate an increase in the maximum height of storage for <br />3213 COUNTRY <br />stacks of lumber at their site at 3213 Country Drive. He explained that <br />DRIVE; <br />the current PUD allows for a maximum storage height of 14 feet, and the <br />APPLICANT: <br />applicant is requesting an amendment to a maximum storage height of 17 <br />PALLET SERVICE <br />feet. He stated that in 2014 the applicant requested to increase the height <br />CORP. <br />to 17 feet, but the request was recommended for denial due to fire code <br />concerns so the applicant withdrew the request. He stated that the <br />storage yard has now been paved and there are marked fire lanes which <br />addresses most of the fire code concerns. <br />Bob Wenner, President of Pallet Service Corporation, stated that they are <br />not asking for more square footage of outdoor storage, just an increase in <br />the height. He explained that the extra three feet is for better efficiency of <br />moving lumber bundles, and they do not need to go any higher. He stated <br />they spent over $400,000 paving the entire storage yard to address the fire <br />safety issues and give good stability to the stacks. McGraw asked how <br />many rail cars come to their facility. Nick Wenner, Operations Manager <br />of the Little Canada location, stated that they have two rail cars per day <br />deliver lumber and they load 15-25 semi -trucks per day. <br />Montour opened the public hearing.
