Mr. Greg Schroeder
Deputy Clerk Ms. Kathy Glanzer
PUBLIC The purpose of tonight's workshop meeting is to review issues related
WORKS to the City's Public Works Garage.
GARAGE
Mayor Fahey noted that the City has four options related to the Public
Works Garage. These are:
1. Proceed with life safety improvements to existing building;
2. Provide addition of 3,000 square feet to existing building;
3. Build a new 10,000 square foot building on existing site;
4. Building a new building on new site.
The Public Works Director reported that the current Public Works Garage
consists of 7,200 square feet. Oertel Architects, the consultant who
conducted a use study for Public Works, has determined that an additional
3,000 square feet are necessary in order for Public Works to function
adequately.
The Council reviewed the cost estimates for upgrading the existing garage,
and it was noted that $150,000 in life safety improvements are needed.
The costs increase to just over $500,000 to improve and expand the
existing garage.
Anderson asked if any improvements would be needed to the building if
the City decided to sell it. The Public Works Director reported that the
building is grandfathered in. Improvements would not be required, but
may be needed depending on the use that a buyer would plan to make of
the building.
LaValle asked what improvements the City would be required to make if it
continued to use the Public Works garage.
