MINUTES <br />CITY COUNCIL <br />JANUARY 24, 2001 <br />RECOMMENDATIONS OF THE CITY PLANNER, CITY <br />ENGINEER, AND FIRE MARSHAL, AND SUB.IECT TO REVIEW <br />AND RESOLUTION I3Y CITY STAFF OF THE ROOF DRAIN ISSUE <br />AS WELL AS THE SINGLE DRIVEWAY ISSUE ON LITTLE <br />CANADA ROAD <br />The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by LaValle. <br />Ayes (5) Fahey, LaValle, Montour, Anderson, Scalze. <br />Nays (0). Resolution declared adopted. <br />SENATOR Senator Mady Reiter appeared before the Council to introduce herself as <br />MADY the City's representative in the State Senate, and to welcome the City to <br />BETTER contact her with issues of concern or questions. Reiter updated the <br />Council on the various committees on which she is serving as well as <br />some of the pending issues in the Legislature. Reiter also reported that she <br />is an advocate for exempting cities from the State sales tax. Reiter pointed <br />out that transportation is currently a huge issue, and pointed out that <br />35E/694 project which is scheduled to begin in 2002 and will have a huge <br />impact on Little Canada. <br />Fahey asked the status of sound barrier walls, and the Council's requested <br />Senator Reiter's help in securing sound barrier walls for those Little <br />Canada neighborhoods impacted by the 35E/694 freeway interchange <br />project. Senator Reiter assured the Council that she will research this <br />issue and report back to the Council. <br />Scalze pointed out the transportation issues relative to highways, light and <br />commuter rail, and busways. Scalze felt there should be an agency <br />overseeing the coordination of total transportation needs. Senator Reiter <br />indicated that she was a strong supporter of flexible busing, and that she <br />will keep the City's interests in mind relative to transportation. <br />Fahey again stressed the need for sound barriers in the Twin Lake area, <br />and Senator Reiter assured the City that she would find out the status of <br />sound barrier projects. <br />Fahey also asked Senator Reiter to work on the issue of PERA coverage <br />and allowing for the re-enrollment of public employees who had <br />previously chosen to opt out of this coverage. Currently, the only way to <br />re-enroll would be for an employee to change jobs. <br />Senator Reiter reported that she would work on these issues for the City <br />and encouraged the City to contact her with any other issues or concerns. <br />Senator Reiter thanked the City Council for meeting with her this evening. <br />
