MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
FEBRUARY 14, 2001
Department is willing to assist in code enforcement efforts, it does not have the
manpower to address the day-to-day enforcement of the City's ordinances.
Altendorfer pointed out that the time an officer spends on code enforcement is
time taken away from patrol.
LaValle suggested that when an oflcer is patrolling and notices street vendors
or temporary signs, that officer should inform the vendors they must leave or
contact the City Center to inquire whether or not the proper licenses have been
obtained. LaValle felt there were little things like these in the code
enforcement area that the Sheriffls Department could help the City with.
Scalze expressed concern about the frequent speed traps that have been set on
LaBore Road. Scalze suggested that perhaps more time could be spent on code
enforcement efforts such as dealing with unlicensed vehicles in yards than
speeders. The City Administrator pointed out that the
Sheriffls Department has a traffic car that does speed limit enforcement within
the seven contracting cities.
Anderson asked if the Sheriff's Department is enforcing no parking on streets.
Anderson felt that this was something the Sheriff's Department should enforce
rather than a code enforcement officer hired by the City.
Nardini expressed concern about code enforcement on County Road B-2 and
indicated that she felt neighbors should not have to complain in order to get the
City to do enforcement. The City Administrator reported that the City has
done extensive code enforcement on County Road B-2. He also pointed out
the City does rely on neighbors to make it aware of code violations. The City
Administrator also reported on the status of the City's code enforcement
position and indicated the need to explore other options related to this position.
Council discussed the need for deputies to stop by the City Center so that City
staff can get to know the officers serving in Little Canada. Montour reported
on the crime watch/block club efforts in his neighborhood, and requested that
the crime watch oPFicer stop by periodically during their neighborhood
meetings.
Scalze reported on the City's efforts related to the crime-free multi-housing
program and the fact that the documentation related to these efforts is missing.
Scalze asked the Sheriff's Department if they have been able to locate this
information. Altendorfer reported that Tim Gulden is taking over this
