MINUTES <br />CITY COUNCIL <br />JUNE 27, 2001. <br />Mrs. Scalze introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: <br />RES'OLUI'IONNO. 2(101-6-I28-INSTRUCTING THE PI1737.IC WORKS` <br />DIRECTOR TO REMOVE NO PARKING SIGNS ON McMENEMY <br />STREET IN FRONT OF ST. JOHN'S SCHOOL WITH TIIE SIGNS TO <br />13E REINSTAII_ED UPON COMPLETION OI' TIIE CONSTRUCTION <br />PRO.IECT AT ST. JOHN'S <br />The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Anderson. <br />Ayes (5) Scalzz, Anderson, Montour, Fahey, LaValle. <br />Nays (0). Kesolution declared adopted. <br />WEEKEND The Lake Gervais Homeowners Association has requested that the City <br />WATER contract with the Ramsey County Sheriff's Department for weekend water <br />PATROL ON patrol on Lake Gervais. The Sheriff's Department indicated that they would <br />GERVAIS provide this service for a minimum of 4 hours per day at $35.00 per hour. <br />LAKE Fahey asked if this service was a part of the County's regular contract for <br /> police services. The Administrator indicated that the County provides for <br /> police protection at County facilities. hlowever, additional patrol time on lakes <br /> is at an additional cost. Fahey asked if the City of Maplewood would be <br /> willing to participate in this cost. The City Administrator reported that he has <br /> contacted Maplewood regarding this issue, but has not had a response. Scalze <br /> suggested there may be a Maplewood resident on the lake that could bring this <br /> issue to their City Council. <br />Mugs Nardini, Lake Gervais Homeowners Association, reported that they <br />would (ike two hours of patrol time on Gervais Lake each Saturday and <br />Sunday. The Sheriff's Depa~Yment has indicated a mininwm of four hours <br />patrol time each day. Nardini suggested that if the City of Maplewood <br />pa~Yieipates, they could benefit by expanding the patrol to Spoon and Keller <br />Lakes iu addition to Gervais Lake. Nv dini suggested that a lot of problems <br />could be resolved with patrol right at the boat launch on Spoon Lake. <br />Mark Weavers, Lake Gervais Homeowners Association, reported that there is a <br />tot of boating on Gervais Lake and the entire chain of lakes. Weavers reported <br />that there is the need for more focused enforcement on Lake Gervais as well as <br />other lakes. Weavers agreed that the City of Maplewood needed to get <br />involved not only for enforcement on Gervais, but Spoon Lake and parking <br />issues around that lake. <br />LaValle indicated that the County is obligated by State Statute to patrol the <br />lakes. LaValle questioned the additional charge for doing so. <br />Weavers indicated that that is the Sheriff's Department's cost for patrolling the <br />lakes.
