MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
NOVEMBER 7, 2001
LaValle felt there was a real need for assisted living housing
Fahey also indicated that there is the option for a coordinated development
effort between multiple developers and the City. Fahey stressed the need to
have this project proceed on the fast track. He also pointed out that the site
would encompass The Venetian Inn and Rutzick properties with the potential
for the Ultimate Golf property as well. Fahey indicated that the City should let
the property owners in this area know that it is interested in purchasing if the
owners are interested in selling.
Scalze asked if Presbyterian Homes is interested in submitting a proposal. The
Administrator replied that while they have expressed interest over the years,
they have not stepped forward with anything at this point.
Farnham reported that he is still gathering information on the feasibility of the
commercial component that the City is interested in. He also indicated that the
assisted living component would be the most difficult to do.
Scalze asked if assisted living is overbuilt in this area. Farnham was not sure,
and indicated that in looking at the market a 10-mile radius is usually
considered. Scalze stated that she hears that seniors in need of assisted living
have no where to go. While the demand is there, the supply is not. Fahey
stated that he would like to see some assisted living units as part of a
developer's proposal. Scalze agreed.
Farnham indicated that he had no doubt that there was demand in the area for
senior market rate housing. He also indicated that he would discuss the issue
of assisted living with Common Bond.
Anderson stated that while he supported assisted living housing as part of a
development proposal, he did not want the City to develop the assisted living
housing. Fahey agreed and pointed out that perhaps assisted living will be a
part of a future development phase on the Ultimate Golf property or the other
properties immediately south.
Mr. LaValle introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION NO. 2001-71-253 -AUTHORIZING TIIE CITY
ADMINISTRATOR AND THE CITYATTORNEY TO PROCEED WITHA
PURCHASE AGREEMENT FOR THE PURCHASE OF THE VENETIAN
INN PROPERTY UNDER THE PARAMETERS OF THE OPTION
AGREEMENT PREVIOU.S`I_YAPPROVED 13Y THE COUNCIL, WITHA
CLOSING DATE PRIOR TO THE END OF THE YEAR, WITH TIIE
ADDITION OF A LEASE BACK PROVISION FOR THE BUILDING TO
