MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
FEBRUARY 9, 2000
Fahey felt that the access points could be laid out to eliminate any safety
issues, and indicated that he was not convinced that the median was
necessary.
The City Engineer suggested that he meet with the owners of The
Venetian on site to discuss the driveway accesses. The Engineer pointed
out that the median would only impact one traffic movement in and out of
the site, and that is eliminating left turns from The Venetian Inn onto Little
Canada Road. Scalze suggested that the County be included in the
discussion of curb cuts onto Little Canada Road.
Fahey, Morelan, Scalze, and LaValle agreed that the other two medians
should remain a part of the project. Fahey directed the Engineer to have
additional discussion with The Venetian about the median near the
intersection as well as the curb cuts.
The City Engineer felt that the sidewalk improvement on the north side of
Little Canada Road adjacent to the Vitale shopping centers was an
important past of the improvement. The sidewalk is in the same area as
the existing trees in front of the shopping centers. To push the sidewalk
further north would put it up against the parking lot. This would be a
problem during the winter months since snow from the parking lot would
be pushed onto the sidewalk.
Fahey suggested that the City Engineer use his judgement with the
sidewalk issue and try to work with the property owner. However, he
noted that if the existing trees have to be removed, replacement trees could
be planted. Morelan asked if the sidewalk was necessary.
The City Administrator pointed out that the sidewalk, landscaping, turn
lanes, and bike paths were all important amenities of the streetscape plan.
The Administrator suggested that an alternative would be if the City were
able to purchase the houses at 10 and 30 Little Canada Road and shift the
road over slightly to the south. The Administrator indicated that he would
check on the availability of those houses. Fahey agreed that these
property owners should be contacted.
The City Administrator noted that final plans for the project will come
back to the Council for review and approval.
Mr. LaValle introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION NO. 2000-2-39 -RECEIVING TFIE AMENDED
FEAS7137LITY REPORT FOR IMPROT~MEENT NO. 96-1, LITTLE
CANADA ROAD, AND ORDERING THE IMPRO vEMENT AND
11
