MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
JUNE 13, 2000
LITTLE
CANADA
ROAD
IMPROVEMENT
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Morelan.
Ayes (4) Scalze, Morelan, Fahey, Pedersen.
LaValle left the meeting at 8:25 p.m.
Nays (0). Resolution declared adopted.
Fahey pointed out the recommendation of the City Administrator to award
the bid for street reconstruction, curb and gutter, sidewalks, and street 1
lights for the Little Canada Road improvement, and reject the bid for street
amenities.
The City Engineer reported that he had no additional information on the
City's ability to use MSA funds for street amenities. It appeared likely,
however, that the streetlights would be funded.
Morelan asked if the street amenities would be rebid. The City
Administrator suggested that rebidding the amenities late fall for spring
construction may be the most prudent way to go.
The City Engineer reported that the City received three bids for the
project. All three bidders were street contractors and they have indicated
they had a difficult time getting subcontractors to bid on the street
amenities portion of the project.
The City Administrator indicated that the amenities that would be rejected
include the plantings, planters, ballards, concrete/pavers. The City
Engineer pointed out that the sidewalk would be poured and joints
installed where the colored concrete or pavers could be easily cut through
later. If the street amenities are not installed early spring, the concrete or
paver area could be sodded until a bid is awarded and the amenities added.
The City Engineer felt that the bids received for the street portion of the
improvement were reasonable bids, and recommended awarding the low
bid.
IvIr. Morelan introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION NO. 2000-6-1 SO -AWARDING THE LOW BID OF
PALDA & SON FOR LITTLE CANADA ROAD IMPROVEMENT,
WHICH INCLUDES STREET RECONSTRUCTION, CONCRETE
CURB AND GUTTER, SIDEWAI KS, AND STREET LIGHTING
SUBJECT TO RECEIPT OFANAGREEMENT WITHRAMSEY
COUNTY FOR THIS PROJECT, AND REJECTING THE STREET
AMENITIES PORTION OF THE BID
11
