MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
AUGUST 23, 2000
to eliminate the ditch, past practice has been for the property owners to
absorb this cost. The Administrator pointed out the drainage ditch project
in the area of Ontario Road and Thunder Bay that was paid for by the
property owners. The Administrator indicated that the City Engineer
could determine the size of the culvert that would need to be installed.
However, his recommendation is that Ms. Olson pay for the engineering
costs.
Olson indicated that she wants the ditch filled as a safety issue not an
aesthetic issue. Fahey again pointed out that the City is not of the opinion
that the ditch needs to be filled from a safety standpoint. However, the
City is agreeable to Olson filling the ditch in front of her property as long
as a properly sized culvert is installed. He pointed out that the City
Administrator is recommending that Olson put a deposit down of $500 to
cover engineering costs. The Administrator suggested that the work may
not cost $500, and any balance would then be refunded to Ms. Olson.
Mr. Fahey introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION NO. 2000-8-795 -APPROVING THE
RECOMMENDATION OF THE CITY ADMINISTRATOR RELATIVE
TO THE VIKING DRIVE DRAINAGE DITCH ISSUE AND MS.
KATHLEEN OLSON'S REQUEST FOR FILLING OF THE DITCH
IN FRONT OF HER PROPERTYAT 427 VIKING DRIVE
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Scalze.
Ayes (5) Fahey, Scalze, Morelan, Pedersen, LaValle.
Nays (0).
