MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
AUGUST 23, 2000
The Administrator indicated that the information the City has is very
preliminary at this point. He suggested that more information would be
necessary in order for the property owners to determine whether or not
they are interested. He also noted that without the Sculley property, there
would likely not be enough area to ensure a successful grant application.
Pat Johnson, 3032 LaBore Road, indicated that he has 8 acres of property
and asked if his property would be a candidate for the grant.
Fahey stated that he did not support City funds being used to acquire
unbuildable property, and felt that was a better function for the Watershed.
However, if a grant application is submitted to the DNR for this purpose,
it appears the Johnson property would be a candidate. The City
Administrator estimated that a minimum of 25 acres would be needed for
a successful grant application.
Fahey reviewed the results of the deer harvest survey and pointed out that
there is almost a 50/50 split as to property owners in favor/opposed to a
deer harvest. Based on the results of that survey, the Council directed City
staffto have the DNR do a count of deer in the area. Based on the results
of that count, the DNR would then prepare a recommendation on whether
or not a deer harvest is warranted. Several property owners were present
indicating opposition to a deer harvest.
Mr. Fahey introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
RE.407.UTION NO. 2000-8-798 -REQUESTING THAT THE DNR
CONDUCT A DEER COUNT IN THE ARCADE STREET/LA730RE
ROAD AREA AND BASED ON THE RESULTS OF THAT COUNT
PROVIDE A RECOMMENDATION FOR WIIETHER OR NOT A
DEER HARVEST SHOULD I3E CONDUCTED
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by LaValle.
Ayes (5) Fahey, LaValle, Pedersen, Scalze, Morelan.
Nays (0). Resolution declared adopted.
Fahey indicated that the property owners in the area will be notified of the
results of the DNR report.
LITTLE The City Administrator submitted Change Order #1 for the Little Canada
CANADA Road project which establishes a completion date of October 20"' and
ROAD increases the compensation for bituminous wear course to $3.46 per ton.
20
