MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
NOVEMBER 8, 2000
building is 7,200 square feet in size. His estimates indicated that a total of
10,080 square feet are needed to meet current needs.
Pedersen asked if 10,080 square feet would work on the current site.
Oertel pointed out that one option would be to add the additional square
footage to the north end of the building. There are some gas tanks in that
area which would have to be removed. Another option would be to
construct a new building on the same site. There are problems meeting
setback requirements, however, and variances would be necessary.
Pedersen suggested that an option would be to utilize all the life of the
existing building, demo it, and then construct a new building on the same
site. It was noted that room is needed for salt/sand storage, but Oertel
indicated that while the site is tight, it is doable. It was noted that if a new
building is constructed on the same site, there would be a difficult
transition while the building is being consUucted. Oertel indicated that he
would propose a building be constructed of tilt-up concrete panels, which
is a quick construction.
Oertel indicated that another option would be to sell the existing Public
Works building, identify a new site, and construct a new building.
Fahey pointed out that it was time to convene the regular Council meeting,
and indicated that construction on this issue would continue at that
meeting.
The Council adjourned the workshop meeting at 7:28 p.m.
~,
Mich el I.
