MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
NOVEMBER 21, 2000
Scalze pointed out that the City may be looking for property for a new
Public Works Garage and suggested that perhaps this site would be
appropriate. She also noted previous discussions about a path around
Blacktern Pond.
Frattalone pointed out that the path could still happen.
Pedersen noted that the City does not need a site this large. Scalze
suggested that the City could take what it needs and subdivide the rest off
for further development. Slie pointed out that Precision Tree is also in
need of a site.
Fahey pointed out that the City could allow Frattalone to develop the site
with the City purchasing the existing Frattalone property and subdividing
that off for uses such as the Public Works Garage and Precision Tree.
Fahey felt that the City should make efforts to retain along-time business
in Little Canada. Fahey pointed out that Frattalone has indicated that he
made an honest effort to market the site and has had no serious offers.
Scalze pointed out that part of the problem is that the site is being used for
outdoor storage. Pedersen felt this was not the issue.
Scalze did not feel it was in Frattalone's best interests for him to push the
sale of the site given that he needs additional outdoor storage area.
Frattalone indicated that he only has a few pieces of equipment stored on
he site currently and he could accommodate this equipment on his current
site.
Scalze indicated that she has a problem with a development proposal that
is 2/3 outdoor storage. Morelan indicated that he has some questions
about it, but felt the issue was not insurmountable.
Frattalone pointed out that he is proposing a $4 million dollar project. He
further indicated that the one party that was interested in the site for
office/warehouse also proposed a $4 million project. That building was a
larger footprint, but Frattalone pointed out that office/warehouse space is
less expensive to construct on a per square foot basis than the office
building and shop building he is proposing.
Fahey pointed out that the first of the year there will be two new Council
Members seated. He indicated that he did not want to act on the concept
proposal at this time, and felt the matter should be tabled until the new
Council takes office.
