MINUTES <br />Parks & Recreation Commission <br />Apri16, 2000 <br />DIRECTOR'S The Director gave the following report: <br />REPORT <br />• Our 55 Alive Instructor Dick Pinomaki has recently taught his 1,000`' person through the <br /> Little Canada Parks & Recreation Department's sponsored classes. The Council will be <br /> recognizing him at their next meeting. <br />• This season, we have five youth fastpitch teams. <br />^ There are 27 teams signed up for adult softball that will be playing on three different <br /> nights. He is also renting fields at Pioneer to a Sunday night church group. No evening <br /> tournaments are planned so far this summer. <br />• Three youth floor hockey teams have been formed. <br />• Late registrations are still being accepted for t-ball, pop-up, slow pitch softball, baseball, <br /> after school tennis, and floor hockey. <br />• Next registration will be held on May 4 & 11 for day camp, golf lessons, tennis lessons, <br /> a~~d adventures in the park. <br />• The lights at Pioneer Park have been completed. Some restoration work needs to be <br /> completed. <br />• A P.A. system has been installed at Pioneer that was donated by the LCRA. <br /> Announcements can be made at individual fields or to the entire park. <br />• The trail connection from Little Canada Road to Australian on Lakeshore Avenue and <br /> reconstructing the trails in Spooner Park will be combined with the Little Canada Road <br /> improvement project to achieve a cost savings. In addition, the Director will be speaking <br /> to the contractor regarding an improved path entrance from Jackson Street to the Water <br /> Works trail. <br />• The sign at Thmider Bay Park that was vandalized will be replaced this summer. <br />ST. JOHN'S Anderson mentioned St. John's proposed community space and asked if the City is in need of <br />PROJECT more gym time. The Director stated that the City could use more gym time and that he had <br />discussed that potential with building committee members for the project last year. He will <br />continue that discussion formally with parish officials now that the building appears to have <br />been approved. He stated that the City has an agreement with Little Canada Elementary now <br />for use of their gym. The same type of arrangement could be made with St. John's. He <br />stated that the Church's use would come first and he is not sure how much they would use it. <br />The Director stated that SL John's is proposing to construct a new school building with <br />community space.
