MINUTES
Parks & Recreation Commission
April 6, 2000
The Director commented that the "name the park" contest could be announced at the June
meeting.
CONCERTS Danielson commented that she has booked the following bands for the concerC series at
Spooner Park this summer:
^ The Splatter Sisters -July 12
Roseville Area Jazz Band --July 19
The District ~-July 26
Danielson stated that she has another band she would like to book for the July 5 date, but was
concerned about the name acid wanted Commission approval before proceeding. The band's
name is "Trailer Trash." She indicated that they are a country band and are excellent. The
consensus of the Commission members was to go ahead and book the band. They
commented that the newsletter and flyers should contain information letting residents know
what type of music the bands play.
PIONEER The ,Director stated that Sanders is still obtaining information on this subject and will present
PARHING the information at a future meeting.
PROJECTS The Director indicated that there is nothing new to report on this issue.
UPDATE
BLEACHERS The Director stated that the compliance deadline has been extended to give people more time
to come up with money to pay for bleacher corrections. The bleachers at Pioneer Park have
already been retrofitted, but some freestanding bleachers throughout the City still need work
and/or replacement.
CABLE The Director stated that the Council wanted the Commission to readdress the issue of
CASTING whether or not Commission meetings should be televised live. Anderson stated that
televising would be a good public outreach. The meetings are not well attended. However,
if they were televised, residents could watch from home.
Other Commission members made the following comments:
^ Residents may not want to apply for Commission openings if they are on television. We
have a hard enough time as it is to recruit people.
^ There is more substance to Council meetings requiring them to be televised.
Commission members are volunteers whereas Council members are elected officials.
^ The Commission's suggestions get final decision at the Council level.
The Commission was unanimous in its recommendation to not televise the Commission
meetings.
