Council of the 1/i.ilage of Lit- <br />tle Canada was held at the L,it.tJ.e Canada Fire Hall on Vlednesday, Feb- <br />ruary 1"?, 19!'7, at '7x30 P.M. The following Council members were pre- <br />sent; <br />Louis W. Melancon, Mayor; Roy P. Nadeau, Clerl~; <br />L;dward I..oeffl.er and Carl Spooner, Trustees. <br />John Vitale, Trustee, ura.s absent. Also present were Tied Y. Hemmer, <br />Village Attorney; Louis Jesperson, Road Super i.ntendent; and Oscar F. <br />l,ondin, Building Inspector.. <br />Aii,nutes o:f the regular meeting of January 3, 19';7 and the <br />special meeting of February 1, 1957 were approved as read. <br />He>srs. lfenry Monn, Richard Jacobsen, Lee Morri and Joseph <br />Fletcher, who live in the vicinity of Twin 'i..ake immediately North oi• <br />the lli.llage of I.,ittie Canada, appeared before the Council and stated <br />that: they~and the majority of the citizens living in their area desire <br />to be annexed to the Village of I,ittie Canada. Mr. PJtonn stated that <br />he }ras always felt a close association with the Village because he <br />f'ormerl.y lived within the Village area and his r,iril.dren attend school <br />in the Village. Mr. Jacobsen expressed similar sentiments. It was <br />pointed out by this group that, the present indications are that most, <br />if not all, of the Tovrnship of Vlhite Bear will be included within the <br />limits of the City of White Bear in the near future. They explained <br />that, they had mur_h more in com!non vrith I..ittle Canada. than they have <br />with the City of V!hi.te Bear. They also pointed ouC that because the <br />Village of Little Canaria i.s substa.ntially a rural suburban area and <br />the Village policies are such that the, maintenance of this character- <br />istir.. is likely to continue for an indefinite period in the future. <br />This being the case, the people in the `I•win Lakes area feel that they <br />would mur,h rather be part of a rural type of• vilia.ge development than <br />a highly populated, urban type. After considerable discussion the <br />matter was referred to the Village Attorney f'or the purpose of prepar- <br />ing the necessary procedures and determining the boundary lines of <br />the portion which these people have aslted to be annexed by the Village. <br />Mr. Francis Garceau of 2210 Desoto SCreet, appeared before <br />the Council and sta.t,ed that he wished to lodge a complaint about neigh- <br />bors who burn trash at any time of the da.y or night without regard to <br />the inconvenience ca.use8 to other people and lie also wished to com-- <br />piai,n about the ?'act that people who ovrn vacant lots in the area ad- <br />jaceni, to his home have always permitted vegetation to grow vri.thout any <br />control or cutting. This matter was referred to the Weed Inspector <br />by the 'Vili.age Council. <br />The Clerk read a letter from Swen Anderson pertaining to irt- <br />sper,tion f'or licensi.ny gas installers.
