Regular Meeting - November 11, 1959
Mr. A. Fasciana, a resident of Condit Street, appeared before the
Council and asked what was going to be done this winter in regards to snow plowing
on Condit Street, since there is no public street connecting between that street and
Centerville Road. He was advised that the Village would see to it that this was
taken care of and that someone would plow the street.
Mr. Memmer, Village Attorney, was instructed to contact L'he Highway
Department with reference to this problem, because all o£ the residents now are able
to gain access to Condit Street only by passing aver the private property of Edward
J. Gagne.
The Clerk read a proposed model burning ordinance, which had been
prepared by the Ramsey County Municipal Officials Association. The Council then
re-checked the ordinance on this subject, which is now in force in Little Canada
and it was unSnimously agreed that our own ordinance nod covers this problem ade-
quately and that we would therefore not make any change at this time.
The Village Attorney called attention of the Council to the fact
that since the last session of the Minnesota Legislature, any proposed water well to
be drilled within the limits of a municipality other than a well for an individual
dwelling house must be authorized by the State Conservation Department,
The Clerk read a letter from the Village Attorney to the effect that
the $1.50 per month trailer fee normally collected by trailer park operators and
turned over to the Village has been repealed by action of the Legislature, and can
no longer he collected.
The Clerk called the attention of the Council to the fact that the
Village Election will be held on December 8 th, 1959 at the Fire Hall.
Mr. Joseph pnan, Justice of the Peace, advised the Council that he
has no place to hold court and that he feels the Village should provide a court
room for him. After same discussion, the Village Attorney advised the Council that
the Council cannot legally provide a court room. He explained that usually, where
a Village Hall exists, the Village permits the Justice of the Peace to use the
Village Hall. But that the Village cannot expend money especially for this purpose.
The Mayor advisedthe Council that he has been contacted by some people
along the north side o£ County Road B, which is the South boundary of Little Canada
between McMenemy and Edgerton Streets, with reference to Sanitary Sewer Service, since
these people understand that Maplewood will be installing a sewer line along that road
next summer.
The Village Attorney advised the Mayor and Council that Maplewood
Officials would like to know very soon if Little Canada wants to have sewer service
in the area between Highway #36 and County Road B and between McMenemy and Edgerton
Streets. The Attorney went on to suggest that perhaps this Council should engage the
same engineer who is planning the Maplewood sewers, to do a preliminary survey so
that cost figures could be presented to the people in the above mentioned area. These
people could then decide if they wanted the sewer installed at the sametime it is built
in Maplewood.
As a result o£ this discussion, the Village Attorney was instructed
to contact the Maplewood sewer engineer immediately.
2
