Regular I~Seeting - April 13, 1960.
The Mayor also advised the Council that he had talked to the present
occupant of the Henry Meyers home on County Hoad "C" and advised this man that he
could not junk cars in his yard; the man is making immediate arrangements to get
rid of the cars.
Nir. George Datko, 345 Ely Road, asked why the deep vrater hole on
Centerville Road across £rom Racine Place cannot be filled in. He was advised by
the Council that a previous owner of the property had requested permission to establish
a dump there so that he could fill it in but that the neighbors objected to a dump
so nothing was done. The Council also explained that the amount of earth fill which
would be required for this spot would be extremely expensive and the Council did not
feel justified in trying to do anything further because this water hole has been on
that location for many more years than anyone can remember.
N7r. McCubrey, the llistrict Engineer for the State Highway Department,
presented the preliminary plans for that portion of Highway 694 which lies within
the Village of Little Canada in the vicinity o£ County Road "D" and Centerville Road.
Upon motion by Vitale, seconded by Coenen, it was
RESOLVED, that said preliminary plans for the improvement of Trunk
Highway Number 390 renumbered Trunk Highway IQumber 35E and Trunk Highway Number 393
renumbered as Trunk Highway Number 694 within the limits of the Village of Little
Canada be, and hereby are, approved.
Mr. McCubrey then presented the preliminary plans for Highway 36 from
Rice Street to Arcade Street. The question was raised about the effect of these plans
upon the portion of the Village south of the highway since McMenemy Road is being
closed and there will be no way to travel from the main portion of the Village to
the portion south of Highway 36 except by Edgerton Street. '1'he plan showed a proposed
future bridge at Arkwright Street which would cross above the highway and connect
tiaith McMenemy on the north side. Mr. Vitale stated that he was opposed to approving
these plans unless this bridge was built now instead of leaving it for the future
so no action was taken on these plans and the Council decided to forward its objection
and the reasons therefor by means o£ a letter to the Highway Department.
Two people who are interested in the Thomas Wenzel property east of the
Water Works right-of-way near McMenemy and 36 inquired of the Council as to when the
street would be completed leading £rom McMenemy into the ~9enzel Addition. They were
advised that the Council does not build streets and that Mr. Wenzel had agreed by
written contract entered into at the time he obtained his building permit that he
would maintain the street himself and would never ask the Village to maintain it
until he had built it up to Village standards of street construction. The entire
matter was tabled until an investigation is made by both the Village Attorney and
the Village Engineer.
'Phe Village Clerk presented a proposed new plat to be known as "Demont
Hills'" which would involve the territory on the south side of Demont Street between
the Soo Line tracks on the west and highway No. 35E on the east.
Upon motion by Spooner, seconded by Vitale, it was
RESOLVED, that the proposed plat be, and is hereby, approved and that
the Clerk notify the contracting firm of Rheinben and Husnik, owners o£ the property,
that the Council vrill not authorize the issuance of any building permits until the
-3-
