Regular P~4eeting - July 129 1961
The Mayor reported that he had been advised by Roy Nadeau, County Commissioner9
that certain street projects vrithin Little Canada may be undertaken in the next two or
three years and that the Counoil should have this fact in mind so that they can cooperate
with the County Board i.n determining which projects would be desireable and urgent and
which could be postponed for the latter part of the program. It was agreed9 among the
Councilmen that Tt4r. Nadeau should be advised that the Jackson Street pxoject and the
I~4innesota Street project should have high priority. This vrhole discussion was purely
informative since these matters would have to be budgeted for 1962 and following years
anal there was no real certainty as 'to how much the County could or would do.
`1'he Mayor reported that a certain house had partially burned and that this
house is located on the East side of LaBore Road9 about 3 or 4 doors South from County
Road D. The building has stood in this condition for about two years and is considered
by the Village to be a hazard. '.Phe Building Inspector was instructed to inspect the
premises and decide vrhether or not the building should be recommended for condemnation.
NLr. Prattalone, Village Police Chief, reported on the condition of property
at 3070 Edgerton Street where the occupants have permitted debris and junked cars to
accumulate and are also permitting a cesspool to overflow. He stated that he had given
Mr. Caron, the owner, a notice to clean up the premises by July 26. NLr. Caron was in
the audience and agreed that he would comply with the order.
The Clerk read a letter from Mr. Victor Gordon, 11 E. Little Canada Road,
stating that the Soo Line Railroad Company had taken an option to purchase part of
Gordon°s property abutting the railroad and that a condition of the option was that
the railroad be permitted to erect upon said property a loading dock and warehouse
and also subject to the condition that I~4r. Gordon obtain the necessary rezoning from
the Village of Little Canada to permit such use. The Council discussed the matter at
some length and concluded that the construction of a warehouse at this point would be
vigorously opposed by most people in the area and that furthermore the Council itself
felt 'that it was not the best interests of the Village and its citizens to rezone the
propexty for the contemplated use.
Upon motion by Spooner9 seconded by Vitale, it was
"RESOLVED9 that the Village Council does hereby go on record in
opposition to rezoning of Victor Gordon°s property on Little
Canada Road for use as a railroad warehouse site for the reason
that this use is incompatable with surrounding use and also for
the reason that the establishment in consideration of railroad
switching operations near the intersection. of the Soo Line Right-
of-way and Little Canada Road would constitute a serious traffic
and safety hazard for the public in connection with the use of
Little Canada Road. 'Phe Clerk was instructed to forward a copy
of this resolution to Mr. Gordon so that he could convey this
information to the railroad."
Ayes - 4 Nays - 0
The resolution was adopted.
The Clerk read a letter from T14r. and Mrs. Roy Guerin thanking the Council
for authorizing the use of their pxoperty on Little Canada Road and Rice Street for
a filling station and liquor store.
2
