MINUTES
Parks & Recreation Commission
August 7, 2008
Morelan stated that the LCRA will be having their appreciation party for the volunteer coaches
on August 21 at Spooner Park. The LCRA will provide the meal, games and prices as a thank
you for their volunteer work as a coach.
Morelan talked about the Firearm Safety Program that is currently being offered. Both Kevin
Steinert and Dan Liebel are certified and are volunteering to conduct the program. You must be
eleven years of age or older to register and you must take this course if you plan to hunt out of
state. This year all the registrations are youth as some years it also has had some adults in the
program. Steinert commented that he has always wanted to include firearm safety in a
babysitting class.
Morelan reported that the fall leagues for basketball, volleyball and soccer are in full swing. The
adult softball teams are also being scheduled. This year there will be two Tuesday, one
Wednesday and one Thursday league.
Fahey commented about the terrible condition of the entrance to Pioneer Park. She thinks it
could really use some improvement. Morelan commented that the LCRA donated some money
last year for reworking that area. The Watershed had designed it originally and we were told it
would be low maintenance, but Morelan agreed that it could use some improvements.
National Night Out was a huge success in Little Canada, reported Morelan. There were 18
Sections of the city that had an event scheduled for August 5`~'. The Mayor, some Council
Members, City Administrator and Little Canada Firemen with some fire trucks visited most of
the events. The weather was nice and each location had a very nice turn-out.
ADJOURN Upon motion by Davis, seconded by Neis, the meeting was adjourned at 8:00 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
~~~~~~~
Dotty Norgard
Recording Secretary
Page 3 of 3
