STAFF REPORT
TO:Mayor Keis and Members of City Council
FROM:Heidi Heller, City Clerk
DATE:August 12, 2020
RE:Designate New Precinct 1 Polling Place Location for November 3, 2020 General
Election
ACTION TO BE CONSIDERED:
Approve Resolution 2020-8-100 changing the Precinct 1 polling place location for the November
3, 2020 General Election to Roseville Area Middle School.
BACKGROUND:
Laws of Minnesota 2017, Chapter 92, requires the governing body of each municipality to
designate the locations of its polling places, but the law does permit changing polling place
locations in the year of the election if the polling place authorized by your governing body has
become unavailable for use. The Council designated the three regular Little Canada polling
places in October 2019, but then had to change the Precinct 1 polling place for the August 11
Primary Election due to Roseville Area Middle School (RAMS) being closed all summer for the
school’s remodeling an dconstruction project. RAMS is expected to be available as a polling
place again beginning on November 3, so the Council will need to designate a new polling place
for Precinct 1 beginning on the November 3 General Election.
Ramsey County will mail a notice to all Precinct 1 registered voters to notify them of the location
change, and City staff will make extra efforts to make voters aware of the change.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends Council approve Resolution 2020-8-100 changing the Precinct 1 polling place
beginning on November 3, 2020 to Roseville Area Middle School at 15 County Road B2 East,
Little Canada, MN 55117.
