Fellows became concerned that any engagement efforts undertaken without first stepping back
would overlook critical stakeholders whose needs and desires were currently unknown. Our team
quickly recognized that failing to involve the voices of a significant portion of community
members would render equitable park planning ineffective and could hinder improvement efforts
for Pioneer Park - a public park that all community members should access and enjoy. Because
of this concern, the Fellows redirected the majority of their summer work to focus on the topic of
generalized community engagement.

Final Report Summary
Over the past two months, the Fellows and City staff identified and compared key community
stakeholders and began development of an overarching community engagement guide that
includes targeted recommendations and considerations for the City of Little Canada. The Final
Report, to be submitted at the end of August, will include historical background on the City of
Little Canada, academic and practitioner research on community engagement, summarized
community engagement guides created by other municipalities, COVID-19 considerations, a
stakeholder analysis, and a first draft of quantitative and qualitative survey questions to gather
community feedback on Pioneer Park, as well as various deliverables and evaluative tools that
have been informed by the Fellows’ summer research. The preliminary materials attached
provide context for the larger report and showcase one of the many assessment tools that have
been created for the City’s use.

ATTACHMENTS
• Community Definitions
• Planning Evaluation Tool
