PROJECT TEAM
Page 8 Architecture + Engineering + Environmental + Planning
Riley Lake Park
Eden Prairie, MN
The City of Eden Prairie identified a playground area in Riley Lake Park that needed
improvements. ISG was enlisted to complete a concept plan for the playground and
offered creative solutions to enhance the surrounding area. Collaborating with the
City and using their feedback to drive the design, the new playscape was designed
with “local cabin” comforts—immersing users in a “northwoods Minnesota”
atmosphere as they gather, relax, and play.
PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS
To complement the beauty of the Park, the City chose cabin-inspired playground
equipment, which blends into the environment—combining the wonder of nature
with safety, accessibility, and low-maintenance equipment. Perimeter spaces include
shaded structures near the playground equipped with comfortable, lounge seating
and Adirondack chairs at ground level and on an elevated deck platform. A separate
patio pocket was designed with stamped colored concrete made to look like patio
pavers and enhanced with catenary lighting. The outdoor grilling station has an
exterior stone look and extended counter space to support cooking supplies.
The new playscape is currently in the construction phase with anticipated
completion in 2021.
Glen Park
River Falls, WI
The City of River Falls wanted to bolster its outdoor recreation offerings and decided
to engage the local community to determine the future of Glen Park. Maintaining the
Park’s historic architecture and dynamic natural landscapes, ISG explored recreational
opportunities and designed a FEMA rated storm shelter, splash pad, trail system, parking
areas, rain garden, stormwater managements, and playground improvements.
PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS
The FEMA rated storm shelter portion of the facility consists of main floor restrooms,
mechanical space, circulation, and accessible safe room for two occupants, while the
lower level safe room can accommodate up to 250 people during a storm. This fully
automated building allows the City to control access and other systems remotely to best
serve the needs of the users and ensure the facility is open during a storm. For minimal
additional investment the community has both a four-season welcoming pavilion and
a FEMA rated storm shelter. The pavilion seamlessly combines a focused event space
shelter nestled within the mature trees of an active urban park.
The City also chose to install a water feature on site to meet the needs of young families
and create a recreational destination where caregivers could access water play without
the safety constraints of a pool. ISG designers positioned the water feature on the site,
mindful of existing utilities, to allow flexibility for future design additions to the pool. The
new water feature and pool upgrades add immediate value to the park—offering fun,
interactive, and accessible recreational space for all ages to enjoy.
