STAFF REPORT

TO: Mayor Keis and Members of the City Council

FROM: Heidi Heller, City Clerk

DATE: May 26, 2021

RE: Proclamation for 75th Anniversary of the Minnesota Catholic Credit Union in
Little Canada

ACTION TO BE CONSIDERED:
Read the Proclamation for the Minnesota Catholic Credit Union’s 75th Anniversary in Little
Canada.

BACKGROUND:
The MN Catholic Credit Union in Little Canada, announced that June 6, 2021 is their 75th
anniversary. This business was formerly St. John’s of Little Canada Credit Union and adopted
the new name when they acquired MN Catholic Credit Union. The business was started in 1946
as “St. John’s of New Canada Credit Union” by local Little Canada residents who were
parishioners of St. John’s Church because there were no financial institutions in Little Canada at
the time. The credit union was started in one of the founding member’s garage with $1,009.37 in
deposits, and 75 years later has grown to having over $39 million in assets. This credit union
was providing construction loans to many of their members after the war which was an important
piece to how Little Canada was able to grow and develop.

The full history is available on their website at https://www.mncathcu.com/about-us-2/.

STAFF RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends Mayor Keis read the Proclamation for the Minnesota Catholic Credit Union’s
75th Anniversary and declare June 6, 2021 as Minnesota Catholic Credit Union Recognition
Day.
