MINUTES PLANNING COMMISSION NOVEMBER 10, 2021 7 The Community Development Director noted that there is another property north of this location on Rice Street. Chair Schwalbach provided details on another property that was purchased for redevelopment. Commissioner Quarles asked if there would be a scenario where a developer would purchase adjacent property and this parcel would complete that redevelopment opportunity. Chair Schwalbach confirmed that would be the hope. The Community Development Director reviewed other City owned property and noted that a developer is interested in that property for housing. Commissioner Buesing asked if there is information on the taxes that are paid on the property that would be lost if the City owned the property. The Community Development Director confirmed that would be a part of the discussion by the City Council. Commissioner Buesing asked the next steps, whether the Council would consider approval or just continue investigation. The Community Development Director replied that this action would allow the 45-day review period where more information is reviewed and discussed. Chair Schwalbach noted that the item would not come back before the Commission again. Johnson introduced the following motion: RECOMMENDING THE APPROVAL OF THE ACQUISITION OF PROPERTY AT 2750 RICE STREET TO THE CITY COUNCIL IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE CITY’S 2040 COMPREHENSIVE PLAN. The foregoing motion was duly seconded by Kulousek. Ayes (4). Nays (1 – Schwalbach). Motion passed.
