STAFF REPORT TO:Mayor Keis and Members of City Council FROM:Heidi Heller, City Clerk/HR Manager DATE:December 15, 2021 RE:2022 Parks & Recreation Commission Appointments 2022 Parks & Recreation Commission Chair Appointment Certificate of Appreciation for Tom Ray The terms of office for Tom Ray and Peter Schletty will expire on December 31, 2021. At this time, there are two 3-year terms on the Parks & Recreation Commission to fill. The City has received a letter requesting reappointment from Peter Schletty. Three new applications were received from Mike Mui, Jeff McGrath and Leslie Campbell. The three new applicants were interviewed by a Parks & Recreation Commission Interview Committee consisting of Mayor John Keis, Council Member Christian Torkelson, Parks & Rec/Community Services Director Bryce Shearen, and Parks Commission Chair Dave Miller. The interview committee was very impressed with all of the applicants. Mike Mui has lived in Little Canada for 5 years and has enjoyed attending community events and is interested in bringing the community of all ages and cultures together. Jeff McGrath has become an avid user of the city’s parks and community events with his family and is interested in protecting the city parks and facilities in order to have safe space and activities for residents. Leslie Campbell and her family have all been involved in Little Canada sports and recreation as either coaches or participants. She has been impressed with what the Parks & Rec Commission has been doing over the last several years and is interested in supporting the city in order to continuing to grow the parks system. The consensus of the Interview Committee is that Peter Schletty should be reappointed to a 3- year term, and Mike Mui be appointed to a 3-year term. Please also note that the Parks & Recreation Commission Ordinance calls for the Mayor to make a recommendation for Parks & Recreation Commission Chair. Mayor Keis will make that recommendation at Wednesday’s meeting, with the Council making the actual appointment. The Commission will select their own Vice Chair at their first meeting in January. Certificate of Appreciation for Tom Ray Staff would like to thank Tom Ray for his 6 years of service on the Parks & Recreation Commission. He has been a very valuable member as this Commission has evolved over the last several years. He played an important role on the Commission as the City’s recent Parks Master Plan was completed, along with planning and reviewing the many park improvements that have been done in the last few years.
