The first option was a square-style shelter, and the second option was a
hexagonal-style shelter. Both styles of shelters are similar in cost.
SURVEY RESULTS

From the survey results, the preference was to add a hexagon shelter at Rondeau Park. Staff
concurs with the survey results and feels that a hexagon-style shelter will be a welcomed
addition to Rondeau Park.
Staff has reached out to two vendors for pricing on a 20 ft. open-air hexagon shelter. At this
time, staff has received one quote and is anticipating receiving a second quote before the Council
Meeting.

With the long lead times and potential price increases in supplies next year, staff would like to
get the shelter ordered as soon as possible.
PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION
The Parks & Recreation Commission concurred with the Master Plan to add an open-air picnic
shelter at Rondeau Park. Additionally, there were no concerns from Commissioners about
adding a hexagon-style shelter.
UPCOMING STEPS
Following approval of the open-air picnic shelter, staff will continue to work with vendors and
other suppliers on additional planned upgrades for Rondeau Park. Additional improvements
valued between $25,000 and $174,999 will be considered major purchases and will be made after
obtaining at least two quotes or proposals from qualified vendors and must be reviewed and
approved by the City Council. City Council approval is anticipated for the following items:
• Purchase of poured-in-place rubber surfacing for the playground
• Contracted site work (trails, concrete, grading, etc.
27
18
0
5
10
15
20
25
30
Hexagon Square# of votesPicnic Shelter
