The Community Services <br />Managers stated composite wood could be used but was much more <br />expensive and staff had some concerns with the maintenance of the wood. <br />Ray noted that a wood deck would only last about 20 years. Chair Miller <br />noted alternate option 1 removed the black walnut tree. <br /> <br />The Community Services Manager shared alternate option 2 with the <br />Commission which reused the existing pavers and included a perforated <br />metal deck. He noted this option minimized the size of the overlook and <br />seating. The Community Services Manager stated this option was <br />estimated to cost $48,240. <br /> <br />The Community Services Manager shared alternate option 3 with the <br />Commission. He explained this design was meant to provide a better view <br />of the creek. The Community Services Manager noted the millstone was <br />again a central feature, and this option also included interpretive signage <br />as well as benches. He stated the estimated cost was $35,738. The <br />Community Services Manager explained this option included an additional <br />feature that extended the overlook to connect the trail further up Noel <br />Drive to improve safety. This would add cost. <br /> <br />The Community Services Manager stated construction would have to be <br />completed during a dry time of the year, and thus couldn’t be completed in <br />the spring. <br /> <br />Schletty asked about the added maintenance a wood deck would cost. <br />Chair Miller stated most of the options are destinations, but if the overlook <br />continued to connect the path, he envisioned more use of the space. <br /> <br />Ray explained if the overlook continued it would complete the trail loop. <br />The Community Services Manager stated if the Commission liked the <br />idea, a site survey could be conducted to see if the grade would allow for <br />an overlook to continue up the trail. Abruzzese stated the connection <br />would help park users get to other trail connections including the <br />Firefighter Memorial Trail. Schletty stated it would improve safety in this <br />area. The Community Services Manager noted this connection would not <br />be able to be maintained in the winter. Chair Miller asked about the cost of <br />conducting a survey. The Community Services Manager stated he didn’t <br />have an exact number, but it would most likely be a couple of thousand <br />dollars. Ray noted if the connection couldn’t be made, alternate option 1 <br />would be his second choice. <br /> <br />Chu asked if the overlook could be extended out towards the creek.
