MINUTES
PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION
October 3, 2019
grading, and if it was extended towards the creek a retaining wall or piers
would be needed.

Darling stated she would like to see a larger space for people to gather,
and the overlook’s size prevented this. She stated she would like to have
more of a gathering space near the entrance for four or five people to sit.
The Community Services Manager stated he would use this feedback to
make some adjustments and have a survey conducted.

The Community Services Manager reported staff met with the President of
the LCRA, and he stated that the organization wanted to take a proactive
approach to determine projects that they could help fund. The Community
Services Manager explained three projects that were identified including
the Gilbertson Field expansion, an electronic scoreboard for Gilbertson
Field, and supplies for reconditioning the skate park equipment at the Old
Fire Hall.

He stated staff contacted a company for information on the useful life of
the equipment at the skate park, and it was determined that with proper
reconditioning the skate park could last an additional 8-10 years. The
Community Services Manager explained the skate park was built 10 years
ago but was in need of some paint and repair.

The Community Services Manager reported the size of the infield
restricted the level of play on Gilbertson Field. He explained by expanding
the size would allow for an additional level of play, and would allow the
field to be programmed approximately 4 days a week. The Community
Services Manager stated this prompted the LCRA to consider an electronic
scoreboard for the field as well.

The Community Services Manager stated the LCRA had voted at their last
meeting to fund all three of these projects for a total of $15,500. The
Community Services Manager stated staff had started the field expansion
project to limit the impact to park users. Schletty made a motion to
recommend to the City Council acceptance of $15,500 from the LCRA
to be used for the Gilbertson Field Expansion, the electronic
scoreboard at Gilbertson Field, and reconditioning of the skate park
equipment. Abruzzese seconded the motion. The motion was
unanimously approved. Schletty asked when the skate park equipment
would be reconditioned. The Community Services Manager stated it
would be done this fall, dependent on weather. Chu asked how the
donation could be acknowledged. Ray stated the LCRA logo was on the
scoreboard. The Community Services Manager stated the donation would
also be recognized in the newsletter.

LITTLE CANADA
RECREATION
ASSOCIATION
DONATIONS
