MINUTES
PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION
October 3, 2019
there once the entrance is complete. The Community Services Manager
stated he had met with the Executive Director of the Historical Society and
he had some programming ideas that could be used for this.

The Community Services Manager asked the Commissioners to talk about
what they observed at their adopted parks in the City. Abruzzese stated
she has adopted Nadeau Wildlife Park. She explained the park has
relatively new play equipment and is surrounded by greenspace.
Abruzzese shared the park is pretty well kept, except for some graffiti on
the back of the sign, but she hasn’t seen anyone using the park. The
Community Services Manager stated graffiti has been a problem in public
spaces throughout Little Canada, but he would make sure it was cleaned
up.

Chu stated she has adopted Rondeau Park, a neighborhood park that seems
to have a lot of children playing on the playground equipment and
basketball court. She explained the sign had been broken a while ago and
asked if it would be replaced soon. The Community Services Manager
stated he would check on this and get back to the Commission. Chu stated
one thing she had observed was that the play area needed more mulch and
was low in several spots. She explained the play equipment was in good
condition, but the basketball court may need resurfacing. Chu shared that
the pond area had a lot of trash and algae, but maybe the Commission
should consider a Parks Cleanup Day to minimize littering.

Darling stated she has Veteran’s Memorial Park. She noted the park is in a
highly-trafficked and very visible space but has a calming atmosphere.
Darling stated she had visited throughout this summer and noticed some
trash near the water, but she did notice it getting cleaned up after multiple
visits. She stated the park is usually very clean. Darling shared there are
often people sitting at the picnic table. Darling thought one thing that
could be added is a table down near the water with a couple of benches for
people to sit. She stated overall the park is very well kept and it is a
wonderful addition to the Park’s system.

Chair Miller stated he has Pioneer Park. He stated the park is very
walkable and well kept. He noted that the grill near the Pavilion had a pile
of coals beneath it. Chair Miller suggested a firebox be added to place hot
coals in. Chair Miller explained there were many people at the park on the
tennis court and basketball court. He noted the playground needed
updating, but the Commission was working on that. Chair Miller pointed
out the soccer field looked very nice, but use was very limited due to field
wetness. He hoped in the future this could be fixed.

ADOPT A
PARK
QUARTERLY
REPORTS
