MINUTES
PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION
October 3, 2019
Schletty stated he had Spooner Park and his family had started using the
park more often because of the new playground. He explained the park
seems to have a lot more visitors with the new playground. Schletty noted
the landscaping still needed some work, but he understood that would be
done in the spring. He stated with the increased traffic, garbage and
recycling bins should be placed near the playground. Schletty explained
the bathrooms in the pavilion could use some refreshing, but it wasn’t an
immediate concern.

Ray stated he had Gervais Mill Park. He noted the Commission had spent
a lot of time talking about the park throughout the meeting, but he still
wanted to share a couple of items. Ray explained the park has a few
fishing piers, and the DNR does stock the water with fish. He stated Blue
Gill was stocked in 2015, and recently a neighbor of his had caught a large
bullhead in the park.

Gonyea shared the Veteran’s Memorial Park had a small structure built by
the WPA on it. He suggested signage be placed nearby to share the
structure’s history. Gonyea stated the Nadeau family has been in Little
Canada for many generations, and there could also be some historical
signage at the Nadeau Wildlife Park. He explained the Rondeau family is
also a significant name in Little Canada and historical signage could be
included at Rondeau Park. The Commission thanked Gonyea for coming
in and wanted to talk more about historical signage in the future.

The Community Services Manager reported the City contracts with North
Suburban Access Corporation (NSAC), commonly referred to as CTV. He
explained each year CTV films two neighborhood productions. The
Community Services Manager stated this year the Sap Run 5k and the
Spooner Park playground were filmed. He explained CTV was working on
contracts for 2020 and asked the Commission if they wanted to utilize this
program to capture the Pioneer Park planning process. Ray made a
motion to recommend to the City Council that the Pioneer Park
Planning Process be included as one of the productions for the
Neighborhood Network Production Program. Chu seconded the
motion. The motion was unanimously approved.

The Community Services Manager reported Astronomy in the Park had
great turnouts throughout the summer, and the volunteer running the
program asked to continue into the fall. He explained the City had applied
to be a Statewide Star Party Location on November 9 from 6:30 – 10:30 at
Pioneer Park and received the designation.

OTHER
BUSINESS
CTV
NEIGHBORHOOD
NETWORK
PROGRAM
