STAFF REPORT <br />TO:Parks & Recreation Commission <br />FROM:Bryce Shearen, CPRP, Parks & Recreation/Community Services Manager <br />DATE:July 1, 2021 <br />RE:Recreation Updates <br />ACTION TO BE CONSIDERED: <br />None. <br />UPDATES: <br />Youth Activities: <br />The Firearm Safety Course will be in July. The roster is full and has a large waiting list. <br />Due to COVID restrictions and a state-wide shortage of volunteer instructors, the City is <br />only able to offer one course. <br />Registration continues for the four-week youth naturalist program. This program will run <br />in August and feature a new topic each week, including, tree identification, wildlife <br />tracking, and birding. <br />Staff is working on coordinating a late-summer fall youth volleyball season with other <br />surrounding communities. <br />Adult Activities: <br />Two virtual classes are being offered in June and July through Little Canada Parks & <br />Recreation in partnership with the University of Minnesota Extension’s Master Gardener <br />program. The class topics are: Fall into Winter and Climate Resilient Gardens. <br />Registration for those classes can be done at https://secure.rec1.com/MN/little-canada- <br />mn/catalog. <br />Late-summer adult fall pickleball sessions are being offered and registration is now <br />available. <br />Events: <br />Ice Cream Social: The annual ice cream social will be held on Thursday, July 29. Thank <br />you to the Little Canada Recreation Association (LCRA) and Culver’s of Little Canada <br />for sponsoring the event. Also, thank you the Little Canada Fire Department for bringing <br />a fire engine to the event. (see attached flyer) <br />Farmers Market: The Farmers Market continues every Monday at the hardware store <br />parking lot on Rice Street. <br />Canadian Days: Canadian Days is July 30 – August 1.
