STAFF REPORT
TO:Parks & Recreation Commission
FROM:Bryce Shearen, CPRP, Parks & Recreation/Community Services Manager
DATE:October 7, 2021
RE:Pioneer Park Update
ACTION REQUESTED
For information purposes only. No action is requested.
BACKGROUND
The Pioneer Park Master Plan has been completed and is available at
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1SESa9yN2tAOBPx8lhrmfR5VVcTV8R9eG?usp=sharin
g.
Since the City cannot complete all the enhancements identified in the plan at one time, staff is
working on a phased implementation of projects and how that fits in the City’s Capital
Improvement Plan (CIP) with other city park needs and other city department needs. Staff is
currently working on getting proposals for services to construct the play node at Pioneer Park.
The services requested will be for final layout and design, construction documentation, and
bidding for the project. It is anticipated that this process will take approximately 20 weeks once
approved.
With the number of capital dollars that it is anticipated to complete the play node and the impact
it will have on the CIP, staff is working on getting all the documentation ready by Spring 2022 to
aggressively seek grant funds in 2022 and have the play node construction begin in Spring of
2023.
In the meantime, staff is working on other smaller projects identified in the plan, such as trail
lighting that can be implemented in 2022.
