STAFF REPORT
TO:Parks & Recreation Commission
FROM:Sierra Hietala, Recreation Coordinator
DATE:December 1, 2021
RE:Farmers Market Recap
ACTION REQUESTED
Informational Update. No action requested.
BACKGROUND
Staff is excited to announce that the Little Canada Farmers Market is now approved for
SNAP/EBT payments for the Market. This will allow a wider population of residents to enjoy
local farm-fresh produce. The next step in this process is to purchase a card reader and signage
for the Market, which is currently in progress.
The Little Canada Farmers Market hosted their very first Fall Farmers Market on November 15
from 2-5 PM at the Little Canada Bingo Hall. There were eight vendors with products including
chicken and eggs, homemade marshmallows and syrup, and homecare and self-care goods.
Though the event was not well attended, there was interest from both vendors and visitors to host
another. After a Market Vendor meeting, it has been decided that the next market will take place
on January 10 at the Little Canada Bingo Hall from 2-5 PM as well. Staff will work on
marketing the Farmers Market more around the community with flyers, a section in the
newsletter, and social media.
