POSITION DESCRIPTION PARKS & RECREATION DIRECTOR 3 20. Keeps the City Administrator informed on any important developments that may affect the administration of City government. 21. Develops and maintains effective working relationships with employees, volunteers, community leaders, civic groups, city officials and the general public. 22. Displays a high degree of tact, courtesy, and good judgment due to extensive contact with the public. 23. Attends meetings, performs other duties, and assumes other responsibilities as apparent or as delegated. 24. Regular attendance is considered an essential function of this position. SUPERVISION OF OTHERS 1. Recreation Program Coordinators. 2. Ice Rink Personnel. 3. Program Instructors. 4. Program referees, umpires, and other officials. 5. Volunteer coaches and workers. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Depending on functional area of assignment, tasks involve the periodic performance of moderately physically demanding work, usually involving lifting, carrying (up to 30 pounds), pushing and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (up to 75 pounds). Tasks that require moving objects of significant weight require the assistance of another person and/or use of proper techniques and moving equipment. Tasks may involve some climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or work station, and extended periods of time standing and/or walking. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND ABILITIES Graduation from an accredited college or university with a four-year degree in parks and recreation management, public administration, business administration, or related fields; or any combination of education, training, and experience that provides the necessary knowledge and abilities. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Experience with word processing and spreadsheet applications.
