Protect, preserve, and enhance natural resources, features, and environments <br />within the City by implementing sustainable practices <br />15.1 Implement practices that meet or exceed established standards for ecological design of <br />landscapes and buildings <br />15.1.1 Maximize infiltration of stormwater by following low‐ impact development principles <br />15.1.2 Include flowering plants such as white clover and creeping thyme into lawn mixes to <br />increase drought tolerance, biodiversity and visual interest, and reduce mowing, <br />fertilizing, and watering <br />15.1.3 Use solar, wind, geothermal, and other sustainable technologies where and when <br />feasible for lighting, heating, and cooling <br />15.2 Maximize opportunities to reforest the City <br />15.2.1 Plant additional trees in existing parks to increase shade, define spaces and park <br />boundaries, and provide ecological benefits and habitat <br />15.3 Protect water quality with vegetation management strategies <br />15.3.1 Avoid over‐application of chemicals that can leach into ground and surface waters <br />15.3.2 Utilize integrated pest management strategies to control nuisance plants, weeds, <br />insects, rodents, etc. when possible <br />15.3.3 Implement a turf conversion program to transition underutilized turf areas to forest or <br />other native cover <br />16. Ensure consistent and meaningful communication between the City and the <br />Public <br />16.1 Be the go‐to source for current information regarding parks and recreation in Little Canada <br />16.1.1 Develop and implement a city‐wide wayfinding system for parks and trails that makes <br />City of Little Canada 6‐25 Parks and Trails Plan
