1.2 Ensure access to public green space within a 10 minute walk (1/2 mile) from residents’ <br />homes <br />1.2.1 Connect the neighborhood North of 694 to the Water Works Right‐of‐Way with the <br />addition of a pedestrian bridge over 694 <br />1.3 Continue to work with partner agencies to ensure future access to parks and facilities <br />1.3.1 Continue to recognize that school sites function as neighborhood parks when they <br />include a playground and facilities that are routinely accessible to residents, and <br />continue to nurture the relationships with St. John’s School and the Roseville Area <br />School District to provide residents access to indoor gym space and other facilities <br />1.3.2 Continue to work with Saint Paul Regional Water Services to: <br /> Ensure access to the Water Works Right‐of‐Way, Firebarns Skate Park and the <br />Firefighters Historical Trail <br /> Facilitate future trail connections over I35E, 694, and Highway 36 that may use its <br />right‐of‐way <br />1.3.3 Continue to work with Ramsey County to provide local access to existing and future <br />parks and facilities <br />1.3.4 Continue to work with Xcel Energy to maximize the use of its right‐of‐ways where <br />appropriate, including Thunderbay & Westwinds Park. <br />2. Provide parks that are welcoming and supportive of people of diverse age, race, <br />ethnicity, ability, gender, and economic status <br />2.1 Engage the community around park design and maintenance <br />2.1.1 Create and implement a process for gathering public and/ or neighborhood input on <br />park design when updating or developing parks <br />2.1.2 Encourage groups to take an active role in managing park maintenance and <br />enhancements, supporting the creation of friends groups or adopt‐a‐park programs <br />for specific parks. <br />2.2 Improve comfort, safety, and accessibility within parks <br />2.2.1 Provide picnic tables, seating, shade, bike racks, and trash receptacles at each park <br />2.2.2 Provide portable restrooms (and screening of restrooms) as park use and demand <br />warrants in parks that do not have permanent restrooms <br />2.2.3 Continue to provide parks that are universally accessible, including buildings, <br />walkways, play features, picnic facilities, and curb ramps. <br />3. Use parks to facilitate and enhance social interaction <br />3.1 Acquire vacant or tax‐forfeit parcels of land to provide key social space in the community <br />3.1.1 Search for parcels in the central commercial area of Little Canada to develop a ‘town <br />square’ <br />City of Little Canada 6‐16 Parks and Trails Plan
