MINUTES
PLANNING COMMISSION
OCTOBER 9, 2008
Knudsen asked if Stanke had reviewed the Code Enforcement Officer's
reporC and recommendations. He pointed out the issue raised with the
location of the storage container.
Stanke replied that he had reviewed the report. He noted that the Fire
Marshal would like access to the back of the building. He also noted that
issues were raised with encroachment on the railroad property and
compliance with setback requirements. Stanke indicated that he will move
the fire sprinkler system access line on the west end of the building, so that
the Fire Department can have easy access to that line. His storage container
will be moved to the back of the building. Stanke also pointed out that
there is a fire hydrant across Ryan Drive from his property.
Knudsen noted the Code Enforcement Officer's recommendation that auto
parts are not to be stored directly on the ground. Stanke reported that one of
his renters dismantles cars and packs and ships auto parts overseas. The
storage of auto parts on the ground will be discontinued, and Stanke noted
that the two additional storage containers will likely be used for these auto
parts.
Duray asked the size of the storage containers. Stanke indicated that his
current container is 20 feet long. He indicated that he will either add to
additiona120-foot containers, or one 40-foot container. Socha asked what
would be stored inside these containers. Stanke replied that the auto parts
that are being boxed for shipment overseas would be stored in the
containers. He also pointed out that once his renters remove the auto parts,
the vehicle hulk is carted away. Stanke informed the Commission that his
lease agreement with these renters addresses parking as well as proper
storage practices.
Duray asked about lighting. Stanke indicated that he has six lights in the
front of his property as well as one on each end of the building. The City
Planner indicated that the lighting complies with Code requirements.
Stanke indicated that he has three renters in his building in addition to his
own business. Knudsen asked if there was outdoor storage space being
rented to businesses who do not occupy a part of the building. Stanke
replied that there was not, and indicated that he has limited space on his site
so it would not lend itself to this type of storage.
Socha noted the Fire Marshal's desire for Fire Department access to the
back of the building. Stanke reported that need is for access to the fire
sprinkler system. The access point will be moved to the west end of the
building. The City Planner reported that fire trucks will not have to go
around the building. Moving the fire sprinkler system access to the west
-2-
