STAFF REPORT

TO: Mayor Keis and Members of City Council

FROM: Chris Heineman, City Administrator

DATE: July 13, 2022

RE: Strategic Plan Update

STRATEGIC PLAN UPDATE:
Strategic planning is a process by which an organization endeavors to actively plan for its future
rather than responding to future events as they occur. In 2019, the City Council conducted a
strategic planning process and approved a 5-year Strategic Plan which established a practical
vision for the community and identified several clear steps the City will take to achieve that vision.
Many of the strategic initiatives that were identified in 2019 had been accomplished by early 2022,
and City Council members felt it was important and timely to update the plan.

The City Council and staff met in a special workshop on Friday, April 22 and Saturday, April 23
to review and update the 2019 Strategic Plan. The strategic planning session was conducted by
Richard and Irena Fursman from Hue Life Consulting. The following documents summarize the
input and discussion from the City Council and staff in the strategic planning session in April.
1) Strategic Plan Vision for 2025
2) Little Canada Strategic Alignment

RECOMMENDED ACTION
Staff recommends City Council review the Vision for 2025 and Little Canada Strategic Alignment
documents and provide input and recommendations on any changes that may be desired. Once
final changes have been made, these documents can be officially adopted at a Council meeting.
