Project Contingency $20,000 ARPA
Bike Racks, Benches, Picnic Tables, Drinking Fountain
(City Staff Install)$19,950
Fund 400 (likely not
ARPA eligible due to
purchasing
requirements)
Basketball Court Resurfacing $3,500
Fund 400 (likely not
ARPA eligible due to
purchasing
requirements)
Total (ARPA - $506,768.56 | Fund 400 - $23,450)$530,218.56
SOURCE OF FUNDS:
The Rondeau Park improvements will be funded through the American Rescue Plan Act funds
(ARPA) and the City’s General Capital Improvement Fund (400). Staff recommends utilizing
ARPA funds of $506,768.56 and General Capital Improvement Funds of $23,450.00. The first
half of ARPA funds that the City received totaled $533,786.39.
COMMUNITY BUILD
With a contractor for the site improvements in place, staff was able to set a date for the
Community Build. At this time, the date is set for July 15 & July 16. The community build
subcommittee is scheduled to meet in April and will provide an additional update at the May
meeting.
EXISTING PLAYGROUND
Staff has been in contact with a non-profit, Kids Around the World that provides a second
chance for play equipment to be used in developing countries. Not all playgrounds are candidates
to be repurposed but after initial discussions with Kids Around the World, they believe that the
Rondeau Playground would be a good candidate to be used again. Staff will continue to work
with Kids Around the World over the next few weeks to coordinate the removal of the existing
playground before the construction project begins in mid-May. Attached is an article from the
Minnesota Recreation & Parks Association that describes the mission and how other cities have
found success using the program.
