STAFF REPORT
TO:Parks & Recreation Commission
FROM:Bryce Shearen, Parks & Recreation/Community Services Director
DATE:May 5, 2022
RE:Gervais Mill Entrance Enhancement Updates
ACTION TO BE CONSIDERED:
None. Informational update to the Parks & Recreation Commission
BACKGROUND:
The entrance to Gervais Mill Park has been a high priority by the Parks & Recreation
Commission for the past few years to complete an enhancement project and complete a gap in
the trail connection. After initial design approval, staff bid the construction of the project. After
receiving the bids the cost of the project was much higher than anticipated which led to staff
working on alternative funding options that would still allow for the project to be completed.
Staff applied for and was awarded a grant from the State of Minnesota for this project. After
being awarded the grant, staff has been working with MnDNR for finalizing the grant agreement
for the Gervais Mill Entrance enhancement and trail connection. The City was awarded $97,000
in grant funds for this project. Additionally, the grant funds have been approved by the City
Council, and staff is authorized to proceed with the project once the grant has been fully
executed. Attached is a site plan layout of the improvement project.
BUDGETARY IMPACT
$135,500 has been budgeted for in the General Capital Improvement Fund (400) with $97,000
coming from the grant award from the MnDNR.
ATTACHMENTS:
ď‚·Plans for the Gervais Mill Park Entrance
