Lennar – Little Canada
Traffic Analysis
April 25, 2022
Page 5

A summary of the existing crash data is shown in Table 1. The crash diagrams showing the crash
locations within each intersection are shown in Figure 4 and Figure 5. The crash rate and
severity rate for each of the intersections are also shown below in Table 2.

able 1: Crash Data Summary
Location
Crashes
2017 2018 2019 2020 2021 Total
Crashes PD PI PD PI PD PI PD PI PD PI
Edgerton St (CSAH 58) at
Centerville Rd (CSAH 19) 0 2 4 1 1 1 1 0 0 4 14
Centerville Rd (CSAH 19) at
Little Canada Rd (CSAH 21) 1 0 1 0 3 0 1 1 4 0 11

Table 2: Crash Rate Summary
* – Intersection crash rates are expressed in crashes per million entering vehicles
** - Average for specific traffic control using MnDOT 2020 green sheets
*** – Critical crash rates are expressed in crashes per million entering vehicles with 0.9 9 confidence level

The data shows that the intersection of Edgerton Street (CSAH 58) at Centerville Road (CSAH
19) has a calculated crash rate and severity rate that is above the MnDOT Metro and Statewide
average rates. Right angle and rear end crashes make of almost 60% of the crashes in the
intersection. In addition, there were 2 bike crashes reported over the 5-year period in the
intersection. Most of these crashes involve westbound Centerville Road (CSAH 19) / County
Road D traffic at 40mph and northbound Edgerton Street (CSAH 58) traffic at 40mph not
expecting a stop-controlled intersection.

The intersection of Centerville Road (CSAH 19) at Little Canada Road (CSAH 21) has a
calculated crash rate just slightly over the Metro and Statewide average with a severity rate less
than the average.

Proposed Roadway Configuration

To provide access to the proposed Lennar residential site the following roadway con ditions were
assumed:

• Vanderbie Street extension to Centerville Road (CSAH 19).
• Side street stop control on Vanderbie Street at Centerville Road (CSAH 19).
• Extension (restriping) of the center left turn lane on Centerville Road (CSAH 19) to the
proposed Vanderbie Street intersection.
Location
Number
of
Crashes
Daily
Entering
Vehicles
Crash Rate* Severity Rate
Calc Ave Critical*** Calc Ave**
Edgerton St (CSAH 58) at
Centerville Rd (CSAH 19) 14 7,450 1.03 0.27 0.67 1.99 0.50
Centerville Rd (CSAH 19) at
Little Canada Rd (CSAH 21) 11 11,150 0.54 0.51 0.94 0.59 0.71
