MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
NOVEMBER 30, 2022
what will be built in her backyard. She feels there are still too many homes for this property. She
requested that the variances instead be in the front yard where it will not affect the existing neighbors.
Aaron Doeden 2680 Edgerton Street, stated he lives across the street from this development, and he
does not think it should be done at all. He stated that he purchased his house based on the 2009 denial
of a development here by the City Council. He noted that we need to figure out impacts, and the city
will have to pay for the plowing and the road in general, and the property values will decrease around
this. He stated that he is worried about cars sliding down the road and the blind spot, and there is no
sidewalk so it will be hard to get out of there on foot since he would not want to walk on the county
road. He stated that after the trees are cut down, the water is going to run through the property crazily.
Dennis Hansen, 585 Keller Parkway, stated he is concerned at the pace this is going and to approve
anything tonight is getting ahead of yourself. He stated the style of home is unknown and how they
fit, and the variance amounts seem significant. He agrees that there are too many homes and trying to
stuff that many homes into an area not made to accept that many homes. 'He does not feel the decision
should be made tonight and more information is needed.
Robert Venette, 2682 Schletty Drive, stated that he is very concerned about trees and tree health, and is
concerned about what the site would look like after the trees are removed and they cannot be replaced.
He stated that this would be ecologically devasting based on grading involved. It will change the
aesthetic of the property and it will affect the functionality. He stated that if three lots were removed
and the road was moved, this would address many of the concerns of the neighbors and save many of
the trees. He urged the Council to table the decision or think more about how the site can be
reconfigured to meet the needs of the city and the residents..
Cathy Venette, 2682 Schletty Drive, stated that her husband Robert is a research biologist and that
when he talks about trees, he knows what he is talking about. She stated this has been tabled due to
concerns many times, and she is concerned that this is getting to the point where there is no turning
back. She understands that someone wants to develop the land, but feels there is still information
needed.
Robin Bludorn, 2679 Schletty Drive, stated she feels strongly about this, and one of the reasons they
bought their home is the view out their picture window of the trees and would hate to see them
removed. She stated that she is wondering why this needs to be done. She stated that someone
mentioned revenue and wonders why this must be done. She stated that she is not against
development, but wants smart development.
There were no further comments from the public. Upon motion by Fischer, seconded by McGraw, the
public hearing was closed.
Keis stated that when people are talking about this revenue that people are talking about, he does not
understand it. He explained that the city is not making any money from this. He stated that when a
citizen or developer wants to do something with a property, they come to the city about it.
3
