MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING <br />PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION <br />LITTLE CANADA, MINNESOTA <br />November 6, 2008 <br />Pursuant to due call and notice thereof a regular meeting of the Parks & Recreation Commission of <br />the City of Little Canada, Minnesota, was held on the 6th day of November, 2008, in the council <br />chambers of the city center located at 515 Little Canada Road East in said city. <br />Chair Pam Davis called the meeting to order at 7:33 p.m. and the following members of the <br />commission were present: <br />MEMBERS PRESENT: Ms. Pam Davis, Chair <br />Ms. Ruth Steinwall <br />Ms. Linda Fahey <br />Ms. Clara Neis <br />Mr. Tom Maida <br />ALSO PRESENT: Mr. Bill Sanders, Parks Consultant <br />Ms. Dotty Norgard, Recording Secretary <br />Mr. Jim Morelan, Park & Recreation Director <br />ABSENT: Mr. Kevin Steinert <br />MINUTES: Neis made a motion to approve the minutes, seconded by Steinwall. Motion carried 5-0. <br />NEW <br />BUSINESS: COMPREHENSIVE PLAN UPDATE- <br />Sanders presented the Preliminary Draft of the Comprehensive Plan for the Park System. <br />He explained each chapter of the plan: <br />1. Introduction -Purpose of the Plan <br />2. Background and Vision <br />3. Parks & Recreation Plan -Goals & Policies <br />4. Trail System Plan <br />He stated that Chapter 3 deals with some sustainable practices and an active and contemporary <br />living style. It also explains more specific goals, policies and objectives for the next ten years. The <br />sidebars list websites that reference some of the contents within the Plan. <br />The last Comprehensive Park Plan was done in 1991. Met Council dictates that the City complete a <br />Comprehensive Plan every ten years. Little Canada does a separate Parks Plan that is included with <br />the City Plan. Bill Sanders is the primary author of this Park System Plan. Sanders said that <br />because of the lack of available land for development, Little Canada is focusing more on <br />redevelopment which has a huge impact on our park dedication fees. <br />The Comp Plan also includes a summary of the parks and their facilities and afold-out map <br />Page 1 of 4 <br />
