MINUTES
Parks & Recreation Commission
November 6, 2008
showing the locations of our entire parks system. Sanders stated the aerial photos were from
Ramsey County. They are fairly current as the pictures have the Gervais Beach improvements
included. Davis asked if Sanders could date the maps and he stated that could be done.
Sanders stated the maps would be in color on the final copy. The Parks & Recreation
Commissioners and City Council members would each be receiving a color copy. Davis
stated she thought a disclaimer should be added giving credit to the picture taker of all the
photos used in the cover and comp plan. Sanders stated that school sites have to be added yet.
It was suggested to include the Skate Board Park under the Old Fire Hall/Fire Barn section.
Davis recommended that all commissioners examine the preliminary comp plan and bring any
questions or suggestions to the December meeting to assist with the final updating. The
commissioners complimented Sanders on the great work he has done on the preliminary
comp plan. Sanders commented that once the plan was completed it will be included on the
city website.
LEGACY AMENDMENT:
Davis questioned whether Little Canada will benefit financially from the Legacy Amendment
which passed in the recent election. Sanders responded stating the city could indirectly benefit
by having more grant money available for programs.
SKATE BOARD PARK:
The Skate Board Park's Grand Opening was held in August. Morelan reported there was a large
turnout for the event, close to 100 people. There were door prizes donated by The House in Little
Canada and hot dogs were also given away courtesy of LCRA.
Morelan reported that the Skate Park is being used frequently, especially on weekends and after
school. Initially there were problems with graffiti, but there has not been any seen lately.
OLD
BUSINESS: RECONFIGURATION OF OLD FIRE HALL RINK:
Morelan reported that St. John's has agreed to move the pleasure skating rink onto their property.
St. John's might be in a position to sell the property to the city at a later date. The city will list
St. John's property as an additional insured. The city will put lights up in that area to face the
pleasure rink. All the equipment for the Skate Board Park will stay up all year.
LIGHTING PROJECTS:
Morelan stated that all the lighting projects have been completed except for some minor restorations
that should be completed next week. The city is currently waiting for the final invoice.
NORTH/SOUTH TRAIL CONNECTION:
Sanders reported he has no update on this project. At the present time they are waiting for
St. Jude to discuss allowing for an easement to have the trail go through the St. Jude property.
