Supplement to Application Form
Description and/or Reason for Request
Master Sign Plan - PUD Amendment
St Jude Medical intends to provide attractive, clear Signage for the community, visitors, employees and
deliveries to it's campus. There are multiple entrances to the Campus, necessitating clear Signage and
wayfinding to avoid confusion and potentially unsafe u-turns and traffic congestion. There are two schools
fronting CR 82 in the vicinity of the Campus with significant traffic during portions of the day. St Jude's
preference is to provide Signage that clearly identifies the sites entrances with good visibility and wayfinding
to reduce opportunities for confusion during the entire day, and especially during these busy periods.
St Jude Medical is requesting approval of a Master Sign Plan that conforms to Little Canada's Signage
Ordinance with following exceptions:
o Encroachment upon the Signage Setback and Drainage and Utility Easements along County Road B2,
for a Monument Sign and the Service Entrance sign for it's new building.
o Increasing the allowable area of directional signs from four (4) square feet to six (6) square feet.
Monument Sign:
At the new main entrance to the campus, at the intersection of CR B2 and One St Jude Medical Drive, the new
monument sign will need to be clearly visible to visitors and guests that are expected to arrive at the new
building, as well as differentiate the entrance from employee, service, and other campus entrances that occur
along CR B2. The proposed location, size and design of the monument sign will provide the visual cues to
reinforce this objective.
We are proposing that the monument sign be located within the typical five (5) foot Signage Setback and
within the Utility and Drainage Easements in this area for the following reasons:
o Good sightlines on approach are required. Locating the sign as close as possible to road helps
increase it's visibility - preferably on the east side of the entrance drive.
o Storm water pond and grades limit southern orientation.
o Drainage and Utility easements cover the majority of the entrance area, requiring sign placement on
easement.
o Grades and natural features will be significantly impacted is Signage is located behind setback and
would disrupt the continuity of [he boulevard appearance along CR B2.
P:\2007\2007101\ZoningCodes\PUD-8.4V/\Signage Package\2009-01-29 Suppliement to Application Form.doc
